Helmut Lang is officially back. The notoriously rebellious house returns today with the announcement of a 15-piece capsule collection, Helmut Lang: Re-Edition, which reissues seminal designs by the label’s eponym reinterpreted once again by guest designer Shayne Oliver. The Hood By Air. founder and Document contributor also stars in the house’s new campaign, shown above, lensed by Ethan James Green alongside an impressive cast of New York icons including Larry Clark, Traci Lords, Chris Kraus, Kembra Pfahler, as well as Mari Copeny aka “Little Miss Flint.” Since the appointment of Isabella Burley to Editor-in-Residence role at Helmut Lang in March of this year, the New York City-based label has remained relatively quiet about its new direction. The new capsule prefaces a year-long series of additional artist collaborations inspired by Lang’s own history with those like Jenny Holzer, Louise Bourgeois, and Robert Mapplethorpe. Titled “Seen By: The Artist Series,” the new project will continue that relationship, transforming works by Peter Hujar, Mark Morrisroe, Walter Pfeiffer, Carolee Schneemann, Boris Mikhailov, Martine Syms, and more into limited-edition garments, prints, and other art objects.
