Managing Editor:
Document Journal is hiring a Managing Editor. The ME role works directly with the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Director to produce our biannual print issues.
Principal Duties include the managing of print, ideation and identification of writers and topics for all sections, leading conversations with our network of contributors, coordination and execution of editing and proofing, and above all ensuring that the issue adheres to a timely schedule without sacrificing quality. The ideal candidate for the ME role has both an acumen for organization and small details, with the ability to also view topics and themes at an advanced and creative level.
The ME role also holds writing and editing responsibilities across print and digital, and in the off-season for print works with the Digital Managing Editor. In addition to pitching and writing online content, the ME steps in to provide copy edits and proofreading on incoming texts, and is familiar with the technical aspects of our digital publishing processes.
The ideal candidate for this role has at least 2-3 years of experience in the publishing world, preferably working in other independent or agile magazines. Experience working within fashion and/or fine arts is also a plus. This role will be full time, with an expectation of at least three days a week in our Williamsburg, Brooklyn office.
