To celebrate its Spring/Summer 2024 New Mythologies issue, Document Journal’s Editor-in-Chief Nick Vogelson hosted a fête alongside cover star Erykah Badu and legendary cultural figure Michèle Lamy at the Manhattan restaurant Jean’s. The guestlist boasted the best and brightest from the creative world, including Daniel Roseberry, Francisco Risso, Jason Wu, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Mia Khalifa, Tyler Mitchell, Xavier Scott Marshall, Miles Greenberg, Mickalene Thomas, Salon 94’s Jeanne Greenberg, cover star Alex Consani, Wali, critic David Velasco, Luka Sabbat, New York City Ballet Principal Adrian Danchig-Waring, Charles Renfro, K8 Hardy, Participant Inc.’s Lia Gangitano, Daisy Prince, Sam Penn, Parma Ham, Thomas Rom, Performance Space New York’s Pati Hertling, Whitney Mallett, Taylore Scarabelli, Michelle Duncan, Michael Seater, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Alex Harrington, and Patti Wilson.

The star-studded attendees also included Document staff, family, and friends included Style Director Ronald Burton III, Executive Editor Drew Zeiba, Associate Visuals Director Phil Backes, Features Director Camille Sojit Pejcha, Fashion Critic-at-Large Katharine Zarrella, Editor-at-Large Ann Binlot, Assistant Editor Maya Kotomori, and Lifestyle Editor Katie Rex along with Bottega Veneta’s Jenny Kim, Balenciaga’s Matt Kays, Zegna’s Jonathan Hamilton, Jon L. After a close-knit cocktail hour with a live performance by flutist Concrete Husband, guests sat down for a shared-plates-style dinner featuring tuna carpaccio and spaghetti pomodoro. The dining room turned into the ideal dancefloor for DJ Makadsi, followed by a surprise midnight set by Badu herself, who beguiled the room with a hypnotic groove. Fellow selectors Kyruh, TT, and Dangerous Rose rounded out the performances, maintaining the energy through the rest of the night.

Badu and Lamy’s unmatched spirits pervaded the party, welcoming Document’s New Mythologies issue with a perfect amount of enchantment.
