Massimo Giorgetti teams up with the ‘Master of Horror’ for his ’70s-inspired Fall/Winter 2020 collection.

MSGM’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection was born from an intense fandom. As a devout admirer of filmmaker Dario Argento, Massimo Giorgetti reached out to the touted “Master of Horror” with the proposition to collaborate. Argento readily agreed, and a friendship emerged. Their resulting effort captured the sleek, oversaturated world of Argento’s films by transposing its wonky color palette of brown, magenta, lavender and emerald onto ’70s inspired silhouettes. Most notably, the bloody red of a suit set paid tribute to one of Argento’s most famous films Deep Red, effectively encapsulating its sexual ferocity.

Leather gloves, haphazardly tied silk scarves, and metallic boots accompanied sharp tailoring affixed with button and buckle details. Quirky touches, such as bowties and knit beanies, softened the more domineering materials, creating a palatable contrast. In his most overt nod to the director, Giorgetti printed a selection of his silk shirts, pullovers, and t-shirts with a variety of Argento’s movie posters. The graphics add an artful flourish to the keenly focused ensembles. Although black pieces were featured throughout, the collection ultimately conveys more acutely not the darkness of horror but the stylish whimsy of Argento’s oeuvre—a quality that is arguably just as crucial to its essence.
