The artist walks us through the intimate, offbeat group show he curated at James Fuentes, spotlighting voices from his tight circle of friends
For Document, artist Oscar yi Hou takes us on an exclusive walk through Deviations, the group show he curated at his New York home-gallery James Fuentes. In our video, yi Hou connects the dots of his impromptu show, a collection of his friends’ works that is only accidentally—or inevitably—a queer exhibition featuring all trans or gay artists. From Ser Serpas’s dystopian assemblages to Pe Ferreira’s photos of a giant marble penis, Deviations maps a web of sociality, exposing the deviant bodies and pleasures that bind the downtown artists to one another.
Deviations runs through May 7th, 2025 at James Fuentes Gallery.
