Véronique Nichanian’s airy collection is a departure from Paris, and into the holiday mindset

Hermès’s Summer 2023 menswear collection is a departure from the city, and into the holiday spirit—“a magic destination both joyous and serene,” in the words of the French house’s press release, “with the breeze imperceptibly ruffling the clothes that enfold you.”

The clothes in question: airy blousons, seahorse-printed tanks, crocodile jackets, satin bucket hats, roomy mid-thigh shorts, and thong sandals. The color scheme was playful and colorful, yet muted: sunset orange, lilac, pale yellow, off-white, grey, and brown. The garments are “precise, crafted with the refinement of the hand and the nonchalance of a mind that is free of barriers.”

The show was held at the historic Manufacture des Gobelins, a 17th-century tapestry factory. In the courtyard, under the open air, Artistic Director Véronique Nichanian transported her guests to a destination undefined, and indisputably far from a rainy day in Paris.
