Taking over Cortina d’Ampezzo’s seductive ski resort, Miu Miu pays homage to teenage rebellion in its latest collection

Fantasy becomes reality and the romantic becomes practical in Miu Miu’s Mountain Club. The survival techniques we’ve acquired in the extreme conditions of the past year take physical form as bravery for the Parisian fashion house’s digital show.

Staged in Cortina d’Ampezzo, a seductive ski resort in the heart of the Dolomites Alps, Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection pays homage to teenage rebellion. Models traipse through the virgin snow in silk satin dresses, their arms bare in the cold light, evoking the phantom calls of mothers everywhere to just put on a jacket. Miuccia Prada uses the vast winter landscape to punctuate feminine stamina.

The collection pairs the practicality of sportswear with the delicacy of fashion—decorating the protective-wear necessary for the hazardous terrain it is displayed on with metallic and crystal embellishments. Prada’s sister brand finds definition in its accessories. Teddy bear faux fur boots envelope the models’ legs, extending above the knee. Neat colors and patterns bring a sophisticated edge to the knitwear that has dominated the quarantined world in recent months. Handbags range from delicate studded suedes to oversized furs. Charm necklaces and bubblegum pinks find pleasurable tension with utilitarian ski masks and padded layers of jackets.

The models gracefully trudge through the panoramic landscape solo, each adopting a particular character, before merging together. The white day turns into a blue night and they gather around the fire. “Inside and outside, protective and seductive,” the brand explains. “Intentions are multiple, like the diverse identities found within each woman. And, in turn, each individual is attracted to liked-minded personas, the single becoming the collective.”
