Toying with lace and streetwear, with the cult Japanese brand everyone wants to wear.

Eclectic yet cohesive—Chitose Abe has mastered the sartorial dichotomy of casual and formal, presenting a diverse collection this Fall/Winter 2020. Elevating tailored earth-toned looks with slicked hair and mixed accessories, sacai prioritized wearability without compromising the essence of luxury. By presenting elegant garment designs against an industrial venue, the two-decade old Japanese cult brand challenged cultural perceptions of what it means to design womenswear in 2020. Chunky gold chain earrings and silver cuff pieces frequented each look, repurposed as belts and footwear adornments. Satin and wool elbow-length gloves added versatility to the subtle presence of pearls and delicate lace, nodding at sacai’s intrinsic ability to incorporate elements of traditional femininity within modern design. Bronze power suits, khaki-toned puffer vests, and textured outerwear marked Abe’s intention of seasonal pragmatism. With expert manipulation of layering, toying with graphic prints, and introducing a beautifully matured version of galaxy print, sacai offered a fresh perspective on the future of womenswear featuring a twist on feminine streetwear sensibilities.
