The artist's deeply personal works are now available on limited edition garments at a Canal Street pop up.

Wednesday in New York City’s SoHo, Patrick Church’s pop-up launch party epitomized the intimate relationship between art and fashion. Shortly after he debuted his SS20 collection titled “A HELL OF MY OWN MAKING,” Church invited guests to view the opening of his pop up store in the heart of Canal Street, which featured an array of hand-painted, one-of-a-kind artworks on a collection of limited edition garments.

After years of collaborations with world renowned brands, such as Repetto and Opening Ceremony, Patrick Church created his own label in 2018. “My husband was a big inspiration, he believed in my work and my paintings and thought they would translate well onto garments,” he told Document. “I was always making my own clothing and could never find anything I wanted to wear personally, so I just made pieces I wanted to wear.”

At Church’s first solo retail experience, he offers both hand crafted printed pieces and the opportunity for custom, commissioned pieces for customers. During the party, the walls were covered with paintings, racks featured perfectly placed clothing, and a tiny dog got passed around like a party favor, as friends and fans toasted Church’s success. The pop up was filled with cutting-edge intricate outfits, tied together with Church’s pieces, which highlight the versatility and unquestionable uniqueness of his prints and designs.

Creating work from a personal point of view, Church juxtaposes vulnerability with courageousness and offers a dissection of the dichotomy of heaven and hell. His paintings range from black outlines of intimate nude figures and portraits with over exaggerated features, to abstract colorful arrays depicting the hardships he has faced. “The pieces are like diary entries for me, most of my paintings are deeply personal and I use them as an outlet for my emotions,” said Church. At the opening guests enjoyed a night of wine, art viewing and a special DJ set as Church invited all into his visceral world of creation.

Patrick Church’s Pop-up store will remain open until December 29th at 327 Canal Street.
