Luke and Lucie Meier formed the strongest case for Pisces and Virgo compatibility at Milan Fashion Week.

Jil Sander is known for pure, sleek, minimalistic designs in neutral colors. This season, creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier moved away from the precise tailoring associated with the brand, adding a tactile, human quality with handcrafted and natural elements. The Meiers held their show at the Pinacoteca di Brera gallery in Milan, where the courtyard was filled with grey pebbles sloping into various sized pyramid shapes—a surreal contrast with the space’s classical architecture. The collection was a step out of their usual trajectory while staying true to the Sander sensibility. A 1960’s inspired marble print was a move away from the brand’s usual palette. Another print utilized illustrations representing Virgo and Pisces, the astrological signs of Luke and Lucie, respectively. Buttery leather garments with rafia detailing juxtaposed with sharply tailored pieces created a sense of opposition, playing with soft and hard elements. Accessories included hand-stitched shoes with sculptural low heels and handbags which featured sea shells set in silver and lined in suede. Towards the end of the show was an orchestra of rafia embellishments, with garments creating a soothing sound as they moved down the runway. Jil Sander’s Spring 2020 show took a new direction, introducing us to the Meiers’ evolved definition of minimalism.
