No relationship is without its own complicated definition of gravity. Inspired by this give and take, choreographer Nathan Mitchell partnered with west coast director Phillip Lopez and contemporary dancer Sonoya Mizuno on a special film, “Eating Emotions (Chased by Sounds),” for McQ. Contorting visual memories as if the dancers’ own sweeping appendages, the work, shown in full above, deconstructs the common façades of intimacy. Debuted at the New Museum during New York Fashion Week at a special event hosted by Document and McQ, the film broke the fourth wall with an extended abstract performance by Mitchell and his team and a live set by dark dub artist Dutch E Germ, who composed the film’s score.
